Our History

A bit of history ……….. in 1969 Leicestershire had just 4 Scout bands, this number increased steadily and by 1986 the County boasted of having 16 Scout & Guide Bands. Between 1978 and 1991 these 16 bands joined forces to put on an annual show called “Fanfare” at Leicester’s De Montfort Hall. This well remembered, and much loved event was famous throughout the county and in 1988 the then Chief Scout, Major General Michael Walsh attended the show.

20 years later ……………. on March 13th 2011 the Scout & Guide Bands of Leicestershire, took to the stage once more, this time at the Curve Theatre in a show called “Sound Off” – the next generations “Fanfare”. The show was a complete success with four of the 5 remaining Scout & Guide Bands in the County taking part, and it is still to this day, the best selling Sunday night show held at Curve since it opened in 2008, and was attended by the Queens own representative, the Lord Lieutenant of Leicestershire, Lady Gretton.

2013 see’s De Montfort Hall celebrate it’s 100th Birthday and the return to this prestigious venue of the Scout & Guide Bands of Leicestershire in “Sound Off 2013”. The venue is prepared, the bands are prepared and working hard on their individual and massed music pieces, all we need now is an audience, and this is where you come in ……………………….
